My Ex Broke Up With Me Because We Were Not Compatible: What Should I Do?
Video Summary
Oftentimes people say, “We’re not compatible” when they want to break up with you. In this video, Clay talks about this excuse and how you should respond to this and move past it.
Compatibility is a myth
You can have two very different people in a relationship that really know how to make their relationship work. The reason is that they trust, respect, and are devoted to one another. When you have respect for another person all their quirks and differences are amusing and exciting. They are also things that you can learn from and grow from.
Why your relationship breaks down
As respect and devotion deteriorate, the differences become less cute and amusing and turn into incompatibility. You can address this by building trust. You have to cultivate the relational skill of commitment and enforcing your personal boundaries.
How to mend your relationship and accept that compatibility is a myth
Commitment is not about committing to another person, but about committing to your own personal values, boundaries and beliefs. When you do this your partner will realize they cannot brush you off or take you for granted. This restores trust to your relationship and suddenly your differences become desirable again instead of incompatibilities. Start by accepting that compatibility is a myth and then work towards building trust, devotion and respect in the relationship.
First of all compatibility is a myth.
If your ex says they left the relationship because the two of you are not compatible this is because respect and devotion have deteriorated in the relationship. They no longer see your differences as a positive thing in the relationship. Your differences can either bring you together or drive you apart. However, when there is respect, trust and devotion in a relationship differences can become exciting and attractive.
