Should I Take My Cheating Boyfriend Back? The #1 Critical Factor To Consider Before You Make Your Decision
In this video Mike and his partner Nora discuss the question of whether or not you should take back a cheater. Is there a definitive answer to this question?
How Common is Infidelity?
Forty percent of people in long-term committed relationships have admitted to some kind of infidelity. That is an extremely high number of people. Many of these people have successfully continued on in these relationships. Whether or not you should take back a cheater really depends on your own, unique situation.
Is Your Relationship Doomed?
If your partner cheats once that does not have to mean your relationship is doomed. You can probably work through and reasonably come to trust this person again. However, if your partner cheats over and over again, he or she is probably going to continue to do the same thing.
Why Did the Cheating Happen?
Infidelity is not usually the reason for a breakup, it’s usually a symptom. Is there an underlying issue in your relationship that hasn’t been addressed? Maybe it was just a crime of opportunity. If your partner got drunk and made out with someone at a party, then there is a reasonably good chance you can work things out. If there is a pattern of cheating your partner may not be suited for monogamy. Infidelity does not have to end a great relationship. It will take work to rebuild the trust, and it has to be a personal decision.
If your partner is one of the forty percent of people who have been unfaithful, you may be wondering if you should forgive him or her for the infidelity.
This is a very personal decision and will depend on your own unique circumstances. You should ask yourself first if there were some underlying issues with the relationship that need to be addressed. Consider the severity of the cheating. Was it a one-time occurrence or has your partner shown a pattern of cheating. Relationships don’t have to end because of an affair, but you should be prepared to have to work at it.
